Introduction

Web push notifications are an effective way to engage with your audience by delivering timely updates directly to their devices, even when they’re not actively browsing your website. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to enable and configure web push notifications in Newsifier.

By following this setup process, you can select a preferred push notification service (OneSignal, Web Pusher, or Firebase) and start connecting with your users through real-time alerts.

How to Set Up Web Push Notifications in Newsifier Settings

  1. Access Settings

    • In the Admin Panel, go to General Settings from the sidebar and select the Share tab.

  2. Enable Web Push Notifications

    • Scroll to the Web Push Notifications section and toggle Enable Web Push Widget.

  3. Choose a Push Service

    • Select your preferred service from the list (e.g., OneSignal, Web Pusher, Firebase) and follow the setup steps.

Configuring OneSignal Notifications in Newsifier

OneSignal is a powerful tool for managing push notifications on your website, allowing you to engage with users directly on their devices. This guide will take you through the process of setting up OneSignal with Newsifier.

If you already have an active OneSignal account you can just copy and paste your API keys inside the CMS, as shown in step 4.

Step 1: Create a New App or Website in OneSignal

  1. Sign Up or Log In

If you’re new to OneSignal, start by creating an account. Existing users can log in and follow along with the setup steps.

  2. Create a New App or Web Page

Once logged in, navigate to the overview page and select New App or Web Page.

  3. Choose Platform

    • Select ‘Web’ as your platform, then click Next to proceed with configuring your platform.

  4. Upload an Image (Optional)

    • For better brand recognition, upload a square image (recommended resolution: 256x256 pixels).

Step 2: Configure Push Prompt Settings

  1. Push Slide Prompt

    • Customize the text that appears in the initial push prompt shown to users. By default, it appears after one page view and a 10-second delay, which should work well for most websites.

    • To edit the prompt text or button labels, click on Customize Slide Prompt and adjust as needed.

  2. Subscription Bell (Optional)

    • You may also add a Subscription Bell to your site. This icon allows users to manage their subscription status by clicking to subscribe or unsubscribe. When enabled:

      • The bell will appear on all pages.

      • The initial push slide prompt will still appear only after one page view and a 10-second delay.

Step 3: Set Up the Welcome Notification

  1. Customize the Welcome Message

    • Create a message that users will receive immediately after subscribing, such as “Thank you for subscribing! Stay tuned for updates.”

    • This message can be customized to suit your brand’s voice and tone.

  2. Save Settings

    • Once you’ve completed the customization of prompts and welcome messages, click Save to finalize these settings.

Step 4: Connect OneSignal with Newsifier

  1. Access Settings in OneSignal

    • Go to Settings in OneSignal, then select Keys and IDs. Here, you’ll find the App ID and REST API Key, which you’ll need to connect with Newsifier.

  2. Enter Keys in Newsifier

    • In Newsifier’s admin panel, navigate to Settings > Social Media.

    • Locate the OneSignal section and paste the App ID and REST API Key from OneSignal.

Final Steps

With everything set up, your website is now ready to send push notifications to subscribers. Test the setup by visiting your site to ensure the prompts and notifications work as expected.

Important: If you were using the OneSignal WordPress plugin you need to change your image and text in your OneSignal account itself.
