Introduction

The XML Feature allows you to automatically publish articles from external RSS feeds directly to your Newsifier site. This guide will walk you through the steps to set up and configure the feature for importing articles

Accessing the XML Feature

To get started, navigate to the XML Feeds option found in the left-hand menu of the Newsifier dashboard.

Setting Up a New Feed

You can find the XML Feed page from the left menu in the admin panel, under Extra.

  1. Click on "Add XML": The "Add XML" button is at the top right corner of the XML Feeds page. Click it to begin the setup process.

  2. Configure Feed Settings: A popup will appear with various configuration options. Here's what you need to fill in:

    • HTTP Feed URL: Enter the URL of the RSS feed from which you want to import articles.

    • Feed Active Status: Toggle this option to activate or deactivate the feed. This determines whether new articles will continue to be fetched from this feed to the system or not.

    • Assign a Category: You must assign a category to the imported articles. A drop-down menu with available categories will appear when you click on the field, and you can effortlessly search by typing in to find the category you need.

    • Default Author: For the imported articles, select a default author from the dropdown menu.

    • Article Status: Choose whether the imported articles should be automatically published or saved as drafts by default.

    • XML Feed Standards: Newsifier currently supports two XML feed standards: ANP_XML and Politie_XML. If your RSS feed uses a different standard, contact Newsifier support to check compatibility and explore the possibility of supporting new standards.

    • Default Image Watermark: You can apply a watermark to all images from the imported articles. Select the watermark image to ensure it appears on every main image.

    • Assign Tags: Type in the tag field to assign tags to articles imported from the feed. A dropdown will appear, allowing you to select multiple tags that will be attached to all articles.

    • Exclude Pages: This option lets you control where the imported articles are displayed. You can exclude articles from appearing on certain pages, such as the homepage, article page, tag pages, or search pages. If there’s a specific page you don’t want these articles to appear on, specify it here. This feature is closely related to the Article Visibility feature, which allows for more detailed control over article placement. For more information, check the Related Help Article on Managing Article Visibility.

  3. Finalizing and Managing the Feed Once all configurations are set, click Add XML to save your new feed. The feed will now appear in the XML Feeds Overview, showing details like the URL, assigned categories, author, and status of the feed.

    From the overview, you can:

  • Edit: Adjust the feed’s settings at any time.

  • Delete: Remove the feed if it is no longer needed.

Filtering and Identifying Imported Articles

To find articles imported via an XML feed:

  • Go to the Overview Articles section in the dashboard.

  • Use the filter option and select XML Feed to filter articles imported from RSS feeds.

Additionally, on the article detail page, there will be a new XML Feed option under the article type section, indicating whether the article was published via an XML feed or written manually.
