Using the Polls Feature in Newsifier

Introduction

The Polls feature in Newsifier allows publishers to engage their audience by embedding interactive polls directly within articles. Readers can participate in polls, and results are displayed in real time. This feature helps drive user engagement and provides valuable insights into reader opinions. Below, we’ll walk you through how to access, manage, and embed polls within your articles.

Accessing the Polls Manager

To access the Polls Manager:

  1. Navigate to the Admin Panel.

  2. Select Community from the menu.

  3. Click on Polls Manager.

Here, you will find an overview of all polls created in your system, including their assigned articles and statuses.

Managing Polls

Bulk Actions

  • From the Polls Overview Page, you can select multiple polls and use the bulk action button to delete them.

Filtering Polls

  • Use the available filters to refine the list of polls based on:

    • Status: Open or closed polls.

    • Assignment: Assigned or unassigned polls to articles.

Poll Overview Page

The Polls Overview Page displays key information for each poll, including:

  • Poll Question and Answers

  • Creator of the Poll

  • Number of Votes

  • Assignment Status (whether linked to an article or not)

  • Poll Status (Active, Closed, or Inactive)

Creating a New Poll

To create a new poll:

  1. Go to the Polls Overview Page.

  2. Click on the Add Poll button in the top right corner.

  3. Enter the required details:

    • Poll Question

    • Possible Answers

    • Assigned Articles

    • Poll Status

Editing Polls

Clicking on a poll opens the edit page, where you can:

  • Add or remove answers.

  • Change the status:

    • Active (Yes): The poll appears on the assigned article.

    • Inactive (No): The poll is hidden from users.

    • Closed: The poll remains visible, but users cannot vote.

  • View and manage assigned articles.

Embedding a Poll in an Article

There are two ways to add a poll to an article:

  1. From the Polls Manager:

    1. Open the poll you want to assign from the Polls Manager.

    2. In the Assigned Articles field, start typing the article title and select it from the results. You can assign the poll to more than one article.

    3. Save the poll.

    The poll is added at the bottom of each assigned article. To move it, open the article in the editor and drag the poll block to the desired position.

  2. From the Article Editor:

    • Open the article in the Article Manager.

    • From the article toolbar, select the Poll Widget.

    • Enter the poll question and possible answers.

Generating a Poll with AI

If AI features are enabled on your site, the Poll widget in the article editor can write the poll for you based on the article's content. You get a ready-made question and answer options that you can edit, regenerate, or use as is.

Requirements

  • AI Polls must be switched on under Settings → AI → AI Polls. If you don't see the AI options described below, ask your admin or contact our support team.

  • Only users who can create or edit articles can generate polls.

  • The article needs at least 150 words. Below that, the button stays disabled and shows a live counter (for example "82 / 150") that updates as you type.

Generating a poll in the editor

  1. Open the article and add a Poll block using the + button in the editor.

  2. Click Generate poll from article. Within a few seconds the block is filled with a question and four answer options based on your article.

  3. Not happy with the result? Click Regenerate to get a new version.

  4. Edit anything you like. You can rewrite the question, change answers, and add or remove options just like a manually created poll.

  5. Save the article. The poll is stored in the Polls Manager and linked to the article, exactly as a hand-made poll would be.

Good to know

  • Regenerating a saved poll: if the poll has already been published and collected votes, you'll get a confirmation first, because replacing the answer options discards existing votes. After reopening a saved article, the button reads Generate poll from article again and shows the same confirmation.

  • Something went wrong? If a poll can't be generated (for example because the site's monthly AI allowance is used up), you'll see a message inside the block and can try again or fill in the poll manually.

User Interaction on the Front End

  • Logged-in users can vote in a poll.

  • After voting, users will immediately see the current poll results.

  • Closed polls remain visible, but voting is disabled.

FAQ

  1. How do I turn AI Polls on or off?
    Go to Settings → AI → AI Polls and toggle the feature. When it's off, the Poll widget works as before, without the AI button. Only admins can change this setting.

  2. Can I change the kind of questions the AI generates?
    Yes. Under Settings → AI → AI Polls you can edit the prompt used to generate polls. Adjust it if you want a different style or tone, for example more playful questions or a stricter focus on the article's main topic. The change applies to all polls generated on your site from that point on.

  3. I don't see the AI Polls option in Settings. Why?
    AI Polls is only available on sites where AI features are enabled. If you don't see it, contact our support team.
