Introduction

The new Galleries feature in Newsifier gives you a powerful way to manage and display image galleries across your website. Unlike the older gallery method that worked within article content, this new system allows you to:

  • Create dedicated gallery pages with individual URLs

  • Organize galleries through a centralized dashboard

  • Use a lightbox to enhance image viewing

  • Share individual images with their own unique links

In this article, we'll walk you through how to access, create, and manage galleries in Newsifier.

Accessing the Galleries Dashboard

  1. Log in to your Newsifier dashboard.

  2. From the left-hand menu, click Settings.

  3. Under Settings, click Galleries.

You’ll be taken to the Galleries dashboard, where you can see an overview of all existing galleries.

Understanding the Galleries Dashboard

In the Galleries dashboard, you will see a table listing:

  • Name of the gallery

  • Slug (URL identifier)

  • Description

  • Published Date

  • Status (Published/Draft/Scheduled)

Each gallery has action buttons next to it for editing or deleting.

You can also use the search bar at the top to quickly find a specific gallery by name.

Creating a New Gallery

  1. On the Galleries page, click the "Create Gallery" button.

  2. Fill in the following fields:

    • Gallery Name – this will auto-generate the slug (URL) for the gallery.

    • Description – optional text to describe the gallery.

    • Images – select multiple images from the Media Manager to include in the gallery.

    • Main Image – optional. If left empty, the first image will be used as the featured image.

    • Publish Date – set a date and time to publish the gallery (by default it will be same of creation date).

    • Active Toggle – switch ON to make the gallery live and accessible as its own page.

  3. Click Save to publish or schedule your gallery.

Active Toggle Behavior

The Active toggle controls both the visibility and accessibility of a gallery across your website.

1. Visibility in Listings

  • Active: The gallery will appear in gallery listings (such as gallery overview pages or widgets)

  • Inactive: The gallery will be hidden from all listings on your website

2. Direct Page Access

  • Active: The gallery page can be accessed normally via its URL

  • Inactive: Accessing the gallery URL will return a 404 error

3. Usage Inside Articles

  • Galleries embedded inside article content are not affected by the Active toggle filtering

  • This means:

    • Even if a gallery is inactive, it can still appear inside articles where it is embedded

    • The toggle only controls listings and direct access, not article content

This allows you to reuse galleries inside articles without making them publicly accessible as standalone pages.

Adding a Gallery Inside an Article

You can embed a gallery directly into an article using the editor.js toolbar.

  1. Open the article you want to edit.

  2. In the editor.js toolbar, click the “+” button to add a new block.

  3. From the block options, select Gallery.

  4. Choose the gallery you created earlier from the dropdown list.

  5. Once inserted, you’ll see the gallery preview appear inside your article editor.

⚠️ Important:
The Active toggle does not affect galleries embedded inside articles.
Even inactive galleries can still be displayed within article content.

New Features Compared to the Old Gallery System

The updated Galleries system introduces several improvements:

  • Each gallery can be viewed as a standalone page.

  • You can request Newsifier to display a list of galleries on your site (e.g., a gallery archive or overview page).

  • The gallery inside articles is now shown using a new lightbox view.

Gallery Lightbox: A Better Viewing Experience

When a gallery is opened, images are displayed in a lightbox format that allows for:

  • Easy navigation between images (left/right arrows)

  • Displaying optional captions

  • Showing the image count (e.g., "3 of 10")

  • Individual URLs for each image, so users can share specific images

Summary

The new Galleries feature simplifies how you organize and present visual content:

  • Manage all galleries from one dashboard

  • Publish galleries as standalone pages

  • Embed them directly inside articles

  • Enjoy a modern, user-friendly lightbox viewer
