Setting up ads on the live site after launch (ad agencies)

Introduction

In most launches, ads are set up before the website goes live. That way, Newsifier can include the full ad setup during the launch and everything is ready on day one.

Sometimes ads are only set up after launch — for example, the client wants to delay ad implementation, or the client switches to a new ad agency after the site is already live. In those cases, ads are usually implemented first on staging (test environment), then moved to live/production.

Before you start working, it’s important to choose the right approach, because staging and live are not automatically synced in Newsifier.

Start here: choose the right approach before you implement anything

When you build ad placements in Newsifier, the setup is usually done using Raw HTML and scripts inside Buildifier.

Ad agencies typically prefer to:

  1. set up and test ads on staging, then

  2. move the exact same setup to live/production

However, changes made in staging do not automatically appear on live/production. So if you build everything on staging without planning the “move to live” step, you may end up needing to redo work.

There are two valid ways to proceed:

Approach 1: The agency copies the work manually (recommended for small setups)

This is the simplest approach when the ad setup is small or straightforward.

How it works:

  • The agency implements and tests ads on staging.

  • Once confirmed, the agency repeats the same changes on live/production (manually).

This avoids any extra paid work, but it requires careful copying so the live setup matches staging.

Approach 2: Newsifier syncs staging and live for you (recommended for complex setups)

If the agency does not want to manually repeat the setup on live/production, Newsifier can support a controlled “sync” process.

This is a paid service billed at an hourly rate.

How it works:

  1. Newsifier copies Live/Production → Staging
This ensures staging starts from the latest version of the live site (so the agency is not working on an outdated staging version).

  2. The agency implements and tests all ads on staging.

  3. Newsifier copies Staging → Live/Production
This publishes the tested setup from staging to live.

Because this approach starts with syncing live → staging, it’s best to request it before the agency begins implementation.

How ads are typically added in Newsifier

In most cases, the ad setup consists of:

  • Ad scripts

  • Raw HTML blocks

  • Vendor tags

These are usually placed in Buildifier so the ads appear in the correct locations across templates (homepage, category pages, article pages, etc.).

Requesting the paid staging ↔ live sync (Intercom)

If you want Newsifier to handle the sync approach (so the agency only implements once on staging), please contact us via Intercom and include:

  • The website/domain name

  • Confirmation that the ad agency is ready to start (or already has access)

  • A short note that you request the paid staging/live sync service

  • Preferred timing (when you want staging updated, and when you want the final push to live)

We will confirm the scope and proceed.
