Introduction

The Quiz feature allows publishers to create engaging interactive quizzes for their audience directly from the Newsifier CMS. Quizzes can be published as standalone content, displayed on your website's quiz page, added to articles, and tracked through detailed performance analytics.

Currently, Newsifier supports Multiple Choice (One Correct Answer) quizzes.

Accessing the Quiz Section

To manage quizzes:

  1. Log in to your Newsifier CMS.

  2. From the left-hand navigation menu, click Community.

  3. Select Quiz.

This will open the Quiz Dashboard where you can create, edit, publish, and monitor your quizzes.

Creating a New Quiz

To create a new quiz:

  1. Click Add Quiz in the top-right corner of the Quiz Dashboard.

  2. Select the quiz type.

Currently, Newsifier supports:

  • Multiple Choice (One Correct Answer)

After selecting the quiz type, the Quiz Editor will open.

Building Your Quiz

  1. Quiz Information

    Start by entering:

    • Quiz Name

    • Quiz Cover Image (Optional)

The quiz cover image is displayed as the main image for the quiz.

  2. Adding Questions

By default, Newsifier creates 5 question blocks when a new quiz is created.

    You can:

    • Add more questions using the Add Question button

    • Delete questions if you want a shorter quiz

Note: Every visible question block must be completed before the quiz can be published.

For each question, you must provide:

    • Question text

    • Four answer choices

    • One correct answer selection

    • Point value for the question: Each question carries its own point value that's been set in the dashboard, it set to 1 by default. A user's quiz score is the total of the point values of all questions they answered correctly. Scores are used for leaderboard rankings and are never reset.

    Optional fields include:

    • Question Cover Image

    • Answer Explanation: The answer explanation helps users understand why the selected answer is correct after completing the quiz.

  3. Configuring Quiz Settings

The settings panel is located on the right side of the Quiz Editor.

    1. You can set the quiz status as (active or not)

    2. Publication Date Choose when the quiz should become available:

      • Publish immediately

      • Schedule for a future date and time

    3. Question Timer: You can set a timer for each question individually across the quiz. Available options:

      • 10 seconds

      • 15 seconds

      • 20 seconds

      • 30 seconds

      • No Timer

Note: The timer applies to each question, not the entire quiz.

  4. Homepage Quiz Widget

You can enable the quiz to appear in the Homepage Quiz Widget.

    When enabled:

    • Only the newest eligible quiz is displayed in the homepage widget.

    • The widget must be activated by the Newsifier team.

Note: If your website does not currently have the Quiz Widget enabled, contact Newsifier Support and provide the preferred homepage position where you would like the widget displayed

  5. Quiz Cover Image

You can also upload a main cover image for the quiz from the settings panel.

Understanding Quiz Visibility

  1. Guest Users

Visitors can take quizzes without signing in. However, their scores will not be saved to the leaderboard automatically

  2. Logged-In Users

    Registered and logged-in users can:

    • Take quizzes

    • Save their scores

    • Appear on leaderboard rankings

  3. Saving Scores After Completion

If a guest user completes a quiz and wants their score saved to the leaderboard, they can sign in after completing the quiz when prompted.

  4. Retaking a Quiz

Whether a visitor can take the same quiz more than once depends on whether they are signed in.

    • Logged-in users can complete each quiz once. Refreshing the page will not allow a second attempt, and their result is final.

    • Guest users can retake a quiz as many times as they like, for example by refreshing the page. Because guest attempts are not saved, these repeat attempts do not create leaderboard entries.

Note: Quizzes are currently open to all visitors, and it is not possible to limit a quiz so that only logged-in users can take it.

Quiz Leaderboards

Leaderboards show how participants performed and are publicly visible, visitors do not need an account to view them.

There are two types:

  1. Per-Quiz Leaderboard
    Available at /quiz/{quiz-slug}/leaderboard.
This leaderboard lists the participants of a single quiz, showing each participant's score and the time they took to complete the quiz.

    Ranking works as follows:

    1. Highest score first.

    2. If two participants have the same score, the faster completion time ranks higher.

  2. All-Time Leaderboard
Available on your website's /quizzes page, on the second tab.

The all-time leaderboard combines results across every quiz on your website. For each participant it shows:

    • Total score across all quizzes taken

    • Total number of correct answers

    • Number of different quizzes completed

    • Average score

Important notes:

  • Only logged-in users appear on leaderboards. Guest scores are not saved in the leaderboard.

  • Leaderboards are cumulative and never reset. There is no weekly, monthly or seasonal cycle.

Managing Existing Quizzes

The Quiz Dashboard displays all quizzes in your system.

Quizzes are organized by status:

  1. Draft quizzes appear first.

  2. Published and scheduled quizzes appear based on their publication dates.

For each quiz, you can:

  • Edit the quiz using the Pen icon

  • Delete the quiz using the Recycle Bin icon

  • View quiz statistics using the Statistics icon

Understanding Quiz Statistics

The Quiz Statistics page provides performance insights for each quiz. Statistics update in real time, there is no weekly or monthly processing delay, so figures reflect participation as it happens.

  • Completions: The total number of users who completed the quiz.

  • Average Score: The average score achieved by users who completed the quiz.

  • Signup Conversion Rate: The percentage of quiz participants who created an account after taking the quiz.

  • CTA Signups: The number of users who signed up by clicking the sign-up call-to-action to save their quiz score.

What quiz statistics do not include

The Statistics page reports aggregate performance for a quiz; overall completions, averages and per-question results. It does not include individual participant data, such as:

  • A named list of participants and their individual scores

  • The number of correct answers or completion time for a specific person

  • How many times a particular visitor has taken a quiz

To see individual results, use the quiz leaderboard, which lists participants with their score and completion time. See Quiz Leaderboards above.

Per-Question Breakdown

The statistics page also includes a detailed breakdown for each question.

Available data includes:

  • Question title

  • Percentage of users who answered correctly

  • Most-selected wrong answer

The Most-selected wrong answer identifies the incorrect answer option that users selected most frequently, helping editors identify potentially confusing questions.

Adding a Quiz to an Article

Quizzes can be embedded directly inside article content.

To insert a quiz:

  1. Open the Article Editor.

  2. Place the cursor where the quiz should appear.

  3. Select Quiz Widget.

  4. A popup will open displaying all available quizzes.

  5. Select the desired quiz.

  6. Save or publish the article.

You can add multiple quizzes within the same article if needed.

Viewing Quizzes on Your Website

Published quizzes automatically appear on the website's main Quiz page, where visitors can browse and participate in available quizzes.

If Homepage Quiz Widget functionality is enabled, the latest eligible quiz may also appear on the homepage.

Troubleshooting

  1. Quiz not appearing on the website

Check the following:

  • The quiz status is set to Published or has reached its scheduled publication date.

  • All required question fields have been completed.

  • The publication date and time are correct.

If the quiz still does not appear, contact Newsifier Support for assistance.

2. Homepage widget not displaying

The Homepage Quiz Widget must be enabled by Newsifier Support.

If you would like the widget added to your website, contact Support and provide the preferred homepage placement location.

3. Quiz scores not appearing on the leaderboard

Only logged-in users have their scores saved automatically.

Guest users must sign in after completing the quiz if they wish to save their score and appear on the leaderboard.

4. A visitor was able to take the same quiz twice

This happens when the visitor is not signed in. Guest users can retake a quiz by refreshing the page, and those attempts are not saved.

Logged-in users can only complete each quiz once. If you need every participant to be limited to a single attempt, participants must be signed in; contact Newsifier Support to discuss options for your website.

5. I cannot find individual participant scores in the CMS

Individual results are not shown in the Quiz Statistics page, which reports aggregate performance only. Use the quiz leaderboard instead; it shows each participant with their score and completion time.

If you need per-participant reporting inside the CMS, contact Newsifier Support with your requirements.
