Introduction
With Newsifier, you can use SmartFrame images in your articles. SmartFrame is an image platform that displays photos through a secure, interactive embed instead of a regular image file.
Once the integration is enabled for your website, you can:
Use a SmartFrame image as the main (featured) image of an article.
Embed SmartFrame images anywhere inside your article content.
This guide walks you through enabling the feature, using it in the editor, and what your readers will see.
Enabling SmartFrame for Your Website
Before your editors can use SmartFrame images, the feature needs to be enabled once in your website settings:
In your admin panel, go to Settings.
Open the Other tab.
Scroll down to the SmartFrame section.
Enable the SmartFrame image provider.
Enter your SmartFrame Search API key in the field provided.
The Search API key is required so Newsifier can import your SmartFrame image and use it as the main image of an article. You can request this key from your SmartFrame account or contact person.
Once enabled, your editors can activate SmartFrame per article directly from the article editor page.
How to Use a SmartFrame Image as the Main Image
When you want a SmartFrame image to appear at the top of your article (in the featured image area) instead of a regular image:
Go to Articles and open the article you want to edit, or create a new one.
In the article content, add your SmartFrame embed code using the HTML block. Make sure it is the first SmartFrame embed in your article — this is the one Newsifier will use as the main image.
In the right-hand sidebar, below the Main Image field, tick the checkbox Use SmartImage for Main Image.
Save or publish the article.
Newsifier will automatically take the first SmartFrame embed in your article content and display it as the main image.
Using a regular image instead
If you prefer a normal image from your Media Manager as the main image, simply:
Select an image from the Media Manager as usual.
Leave the Use SmartImage for Main Image checkbox unticked.
The article will then behave exactly as before, with your selected image shown at the top and in article lists.
Adding SmartFrame Images Inside Your Article Content
You can also embed SmartFrame images anywhere in the body of your article:
Go to the SmartFrame website and search for the image you want to use.
Copy the embed code of the image.
In the Newsifier editor, add an HTML block where you want the image to appear.
Paste the embed code into the HTML block.
The SmartFrame image will be rendered in that position when the article is published.
Good to Know
The Use SmartImage for Main Image option only appears once the SmartFrame integration is enabled in your website settings.
If the checkbox is ticked, Newsifier always uses the first SmartFrame embed in the article content as the main image.
If the checkbox is not ticked, your article uses the regular featured image from the Media Manager, and any SmartFrame embeds simply appear inside the content where you placed them.
