Introduction
When moving your website to Newsifier, it is fully possible to migrate your existing Disqus comments. Our migration process ensures your comment history stays intact and displays correctly on your new site.
This article explains what is included, how the migration works, and what we will need from you during onboarding.
What We Can Migrate
We can import:
All comments from your Disqus account
All replies within each thread
Up to three levels of comment hierarchy (a comment, its reply, and one additional reply level)
Once imported, your comments will appear normally inside the Newsifier comment system.
What You Can Expect After Migration
After we complete the migration:
Comments will appear under the correct articles
The discussion structure will remain unchanged
All comments will be managed inside your Newsifier dashboard
Nothing is required from your side during this part — we handle the migration fully
This ensures a smooth transition without losing your community discussions.
What We Need From You
To complete the setup, we will need: ✔ Your Disqus API Key and API Secret
These Keys allow us to prepare an important step for your users: restoring their login access on Newsifier.
Instructions for where to find the API keys are included at the end of this article.
Why Users Need the Account Restore Page
After the migration, each user will already have their comments connected to their account in Newsifier.
However, to log in to the site using their email address, each user must confirm their email through the Account Restore page.
What the restore page does
It allows users to:
Confirm their identity
Add or update the correct email address to their Newsifier account
Log in normally on your website using that email
This process is quick and only needs to be completed once by each user.
Why the Restore Page Is Needed
Disqus does not provide all user email addresses in their exported data.
Because of this, while the comment migration connects all comments to the correct user accounts, we still need users to verify or add their email so they can log in to Newsifier.
Your Disqus API Token is required only so we can build this restore page and allow users to complete this step safely.
How to Find Your Disqus API Token
Log in to your Disqus account
Go to Applications Tab
Select your website/application
Under Public Key, click Configure
Open the Details tab
Scroll down to find your API Key and API Secret
Make sure to update
Callback URLto behttps://yourdomain/account-recovery, you can find it onSettingstab
Send both values (API Key and API Secret) to us securely by email
Once received, we will complete preparing the restore page setup.
