Introduction
Google Preferred Sources is a feature in Google Search and Discover that lets readers tell Google which publishers they want to see more of in their Top Stories and Discover feed. When a reader marks your site as a preferred source, your articles are more likely to appear prominently in their results for relevant topics.
To make it easier for your audience to do this, Newsifier supports adding a Google Preferred Sources call-to-action button directly on your website. The button links readers to Google with your site pre-selected, so adding you as a preferred source takes just one click.
What the button does
When a reader clicks the button, they're taken to Google where they can confirm your publication as one of their preferred sources. This signals to Google that they want to see more of your content in Search and Discover, which can drive more recurring traffic from loyal readers.
The default button looks like this:
What's included
The feature comes with a few customizable pieces:
A section title (optional) to introduce the block
A subtitle above the button to give context (e.g. explaining why a reader might want to follow your publication on Google)
The button itself, with default call-to-action text that can be edited on request
Flexible placement β the button can be positioned wherever it fits best in your article pages layout
Tracking performance
Every click on the button is tagged with UTM parameters, so you can measure how many readers are interacting with it directly inside Google Analytics. This makes it easy to see how the button is performing and whether it's driving meaningful "add as preferred source" actions.
How to enable it
The Google Preferred Sources button is an opt-in feature. To add it to your site, contact Newsifier support with:
