Introduction

A Google Search profile is a page on Google that brings your publication's articles, videos and social posts together in one place. Readers can follow you from that page, which makes your content more likely to appear for them in Google Discover.

To help your audience find that page, Newsifier supports adding a Google Search profile badge to your website. It's a small block with a title and a short text on the left, and Google's official Search Profile button on the right. The button links readers straight to your profile on Google.

What the badge does

When a reader clicks the button, they go to your Search profile on Google, where they can follow your publication. From then on, your content is more likely to show up for them in Discover on the Google app's home screen.

The button adapts to the reader's color mode: it's black in light mode and white in dark mode, so it always stands out clearly.

Please note that, according to Google, a Search profile doesn't affect your search rankings. The badge helps loyal readers find and follow you; it isn't a ranking factor.

How this differs from the other Google buttons

Newsifier supports three Google buttons. Each one helps loyal readers see more of your content, but they work in different places:

  1. Search profile badge sends readers to your Search profile on Google, where they can follow your publication and see more of your content in Discover.

  2. Add as a preferred source tells Google Search and Discover to show more of your articles in Top Stories and the Discover feed. You can read more in Adding a Google Preferred Sources button to your website.

  3. Follow us on Google News adds your publication to a reader's Following feed inside Google News. You can read more in Adding a "Follow us on Google News" button to your website.

They are independent of one another, so you can use any combination. If you use the Search profile badge together with the Preferred Sources button, we recommend placing them in different spots on the page, for example the badge near the top of the article and the Preferred Sources button at the end, so readers can easily tell them apart.

What's included

The badge comes with a few pieces you can decide:

  • A section title, for example "Want more stories like this?"

  • A short text under the title, for example "Follow [your publication] on Google."

  • Flexible placement: the badge can be added to your article pages, category pages and homepage, in whichever position fits your layout best. For example, below the author on article pages, below the category description on category pages, or between two sections on your homepage.

The Search Profile button itself is Google's official button and always stays the same. Google asks publishers not to change its colors or the "G" icon, so we keep it exactly as Google provides it.

Customizing the design

By default, the badge uses a clean standard design: a light grey box with rounded corners, with your title and text on the left and the button on the right. This keeps it consistent with the rest of your site and with future updates.

If you'd like the badge to match your brand more closely, we can adjust its styling with custom CSS, such as the background color, fonts, text colors, spacing and corner radius. Just share the design you have in mind (a screenshot or a mockup is enough) and we'll match it as closely as possible. The Google button itself stays unchanged, as explained above.

What you need before we can enable it

You need a claimed Search profile on Google. Your profile link looks like this: https://profile.google.com/@yourpublication.

Google is rolling out Search profiles gradually, so they may not be available yet in every country or for every publisher. You can check Google's latest requirements in Google's Search profiles documentation. Let us know if you have questions about this; we're happy to look at it with you.

How to enable it

The Search profile badge is an opt-in feature and is available to all Newsifier publishers at no additional cost. To add it to your site, contact Newsifier support with:

  1. Your Search profile link (for example https://profile.google.com/@yourpublication), or just your handle (for example @yourpublication)

  2. The section title you'd like to display

  3. The text you'd like to display under the title

  4. The pages and positions where the badge should appear (article pages, category pages and/or homepage)

  5. Optional: your design, if you'd like custom styling

Our team will configure it for you and confirm once it's live.
