Introduction

New European rules on artificial intelligence, known as the EU AI Act, ask publishers to be open with their readers when content was made with the help of AI. Many press and media associations have also shared guidelines on how this should look on a news website.

The AI Content Labelling feature lets you do this directly from Newsifier. With it, you can:

  • Show a short text label, such as Prepared using AI, on articles that were made with AI.

  • Show a small AI badge in the corner of images that were made with AI.

  • Let Newsifier recognise AI images for you when you upload them.

For every labelled article and image, Newsifier also adds an invisible note to the page that tells search engines and other online services that AI was used. This happens on its own; there is nothing extra for you to do.

📌 Note: AI Content Labelling is switched off by default. Nothing changes on your website until you switch it on.

📌 Note: Newsifier gives you the tools to label AI content, but your editorial team decides which articles and images need a label. If you are unsure what applies to your publication, please check with your press association or legal advisor.

Switching On AI Content Labelling

  1. In the Newsifier admin panel, open Settings and go to the AI tab.

  2. Scroll to the AI Content Labelling section.

  3. Switch on Enable.

  4. Choose your options (explained in the next section).

  5. Save your changes.

📌 Note: After you save, give your website a few minutes, then refresh the page to see the changes.

Choosing How the Label and Badge Look

In the AI Content Labelling section, you can set the following:

  • Label text: the words shown on AI articles. If you leave this empty, Prepared using AI is shown. You can write it in your own language, for example Parengta pasitelkus DI in Lithuanian. The label is shown as plain text, without an icon.

  • Label position: show the label at the start of the article (just above the article text) or at the end of the article (just below it). If you don't choose, the start of the article is used.

  • Image badge text: the word shown on the image badge. If you leave this empty, AI is shown.

  • Use default icon: click this button to show a small sparkle icon ✨ on the badge instead of text. This is the symbol most AI tools use.

  • Image badge position: place the badge in the bottom left or bottom right corner of the image. If you don't choose, bottom left is used.

  • Automatically detect AI-generated images: lets Newsifier mark AI images for you when you upload them. This is off by default. You can read more about it in the section Recognising AI Images Automatically below.

Labelling an Article as AI-Generated

  1. Open the article in the article editor.

  2. Open Advanced options.

  3. Tick AI generated.

  4. Click Update to save the article.

The label now appears on the article page, at the start or the end of the article text, depending on your settings.

To remove the label, untick AI generated and click Update.

📌 Note: The AI generated tick box only appears after AI Content Labelling has been switched on in Settings.

📌 Note: The label is only shown on the article page itself. It is not shown on your homepage, category pages or other lists of articles.

Marking an Image as AI-Generated

  1. Open the Media Manager.

  2. Click the image. Its details open in the panel on the right.

  3. Switch on AI generated.

You can also switch on AI generated while uploading a new image.

The AI badge now appears in the corner of this image wherever it is used on your website:

  • As the main image at the top of an article (the featured image).

  • Inside the article text.

  • In galleries inside an article, also when a reader opens the photo full screen.

  • On gallery pages and on the regular pages of your website.

💡 Tip: You don't need to update your articles after changing an image. If you switch AI generated off for an image, the badge disappears everywhere the image is used within a minute or two.

📌 Note: The badge is placed so it does not cover a photo credit printed on the image. If your images have a watermark bar, the badge sits just above it.

Recognising AI Images Automatically

Many AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Gemini, add a hidden "made with AI" stamp inside the image files they create. When automatic detection is on, Newsifier checks every image you upload for this stamp. If it finds one, it switches on AI generated for that image for you. Ordinary photos from a phone or camera are not marked.

How to switch it on

  1. Go to Settings → AI → AI Content Labelling.

  2. Switch on Automatically detect AI-generated images.

  3. Save your changes.

💡 Tip: For the best result, upload AI images exactly as you downloaded them from the AI tool.

When an image is not recognised

Newsifier can only find the stamp if it is still inside the file. These images are usually not recognised:

  • A screenshot of an AI image.

  • An AI image that was cropped, edited or saved again in another program.

  • Images from AI tools that do not add the stamp.

For these images, switch on AI generated yourself in the Media Manager.

If an image is marked by mistake, simply switch off AI generated in the Media Manager. It will stay off.

📌 Note: While this option is on, images are uploaded exactly as they are, without being made smaller first, so the hidden stamp is not lost. Large images may therefore take a little longer to upload.

Switching AI Content Labelling Off

Switch off Enable in the AI Content Labelling section and save. All labels, badges and invisible notes are removed from your website.

Your choices are kept. If you switch it on again later, every article and image you marked before is labelled again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are articles written with Newsifier's AI tools labelled automatically?

No. Your editorial team decides which articles need a label, so you tick AI generated yourself, also for articles created with AI Content Generation.

Does the hidden AI stamp stay inside my images?

When automatic detection is on, the original file you upload keeps its stamp. The smaller copies that your website shows to readers do not keep it, but they still show the visible AI badge.

I switched something on, but I don't see it on my website

Please check that:

  1. Enable is switched on in Settings → AI → AI Content Labelling.

  2. The article has AI generated ticked, or the image has AI generated switched on in the Media Manager.

  3. You waited a few minutes and refreshed the page.

If it still doesn't show, contact us through the chat and we'll be happy to help.
